What will be taught during the course of studies?

To perform their duties properly, cargo transportation specialists are taught different spheres relevant to freight handling. They are shipping regulations, the law concerning air, water and ground transportation, commercial law, security measures, terminal management and others.

First of all students receive general  knowledge of logistics, they study micro- and macroeconomics, supply chain management, issues of transportation insurance, international shipment policy, commerce, risk management, business administration.

Students are trained in written communication and dealing with computer software providing assistance in logistical planning. Students obtain knowledge of proper handling of various merchandise, different kinds of equipment and packaging used to store and ship goods, they learn how to upkeep warehouses. Other significant skills are scheduling, monitoring and estimating of the process.

Students may choose focus of their study, i.e. ground, airline or maritime transportation. But most cargo transportation programs regardless of the focus include hands-on practice and internship experience, when students have an opportunity to work for an actual transportation company.

Located in New Jersey, the Institute of Logistical Management specializes in courses, devoted to all spheres of cargo transportation. It provides distance learning. Among the programs offered are export/import management, transportation systems, business logistics principles, warehousing management, freight claims management and many others.

Michigan Institute of Aviation and Technology

One of the programs available at the institute is Global Logistics and Dispatch Diploma Program. The program consists of three components: aircraft dispatch, transportation dispatch and global logistics. The latter supposes study of warehousing, import and export, distribution and training for Certified Logistics Associates or Certified Logistics Technicians.

American Military University

American Military University offers online education for a BS and MS degrees in Transportation and Logistics Management. Students gain deep knowledge of economics, finance, principles of management, and the global transportation systems.

Lewis University

This university offers a MS degree in Aviation and Transportation, which enables graduates to work as cargo transportation specialists in aviation industry. The studies prepare graduates to deal with globalization of transportation, transportation sustainability etc. The classes have 15 and less people to personalize education.
