The Commercial Aviation Program’s mission is to help Hawaii, the Pacific Region and the nation by offering a quality pilot flight training curriculum, meeting basic FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) requirements to earn and train FAA certifications leading to careers as the primary technical training center in aviation and as professional commercial pilots in the aviation industry.

Program Description

A four-semester program of study, the Commercial Aviation program, is created to prepare students for careers as professional pilots, including flight instruction, cargo and transport services, and tour services and charter. This training program is designed to help students to instrument flight instructor ratings, and earn flight, commercial, multi-engine, instrument, private instructor. Students may set up to almost three hundreds hours of flight time. The Associate in Science degree credits from Commercial Aviation are transferable to four-year colleges, which offer aviation degrees or toward a University of Hawai’i degree in other fields of study.

Additional Program Information

The HCC (Honolulu Community College) AVIT (Commercial Aviation) program is created to be available via a partnership with Galvin Flight Services Hawaii LLC. The HCC/Galvin partnership was signed with academic year in the Fall 2007. AVIT is created to provide its students with the initial training opportunity to earn FAA ratings and certifications which will lead to a career as professional pilots within military services, general aviation and commercial air carriers. AVIT graduates are highly encouraged to get a flight instructor certificate, which may be obtained through HCC under Part sixty one, and search for employment as an entry level pilot or flight instructor and obtain a baccalaureate degree.

AVIT conducts flight and academic operations at Kalaeloa Airport (formerly Barbers Point Naval Air Station) which is located near Kapolei, on the island of Oahu.

A pilot training program is one of the most expensive in any college due to required FAA flight hour minimums.
